Care and Cleaning Tips
Washing
Automotive Floor Mats
- Remove
your Floor Mat Guys' floor mats from your vehicle. (DO NOT MACHINE
WASH)
- Fill a
bathtub
or large (CLEAN) garbage can with water.
- Add a
cup of liquid laundry detergent (NON CHORINE) and mix.
- Immerse
your floor mats and allow them to soak in the soapy water for at least
12 hours.
- FOR MATS
WITH STAINS - If your auto's floor mats are stained, remove
the mats (after soaking 12 hours).
Carefully scrub the soapy mats in the area of the stains with a
moderately stiff brush. Make sure you are not pulling or stretching any
thread loops. Also ensure that your brush is not damaging the mat
fabric.
(Mat fibers can get caught in the brush.) PLEASE DO NOT USE A METAL
BRUSH -
USE A NYLON OR SOFT FIBER BRUSH. After scrubbing, return
the mats to the tub or container of soapy solution for extra twelve
hours of soaking.
Remove the mat and rinse out all the soap. A garden
hose works well for this. You can also re-soak the mats again in
fresh water.
- Hang the
clean soap-free floor mats out in the open air to dry. (Direct sunlight
may cause fading over an extended time.)
- Vacuum
the carpet area in your car or truck where the mats are to be returned.
- Place
the clean, dry mats back into your vehicle.
NOTE:
This works best on nylon fiber style floor mats. Other fabrics may also
use this process. Please consult your manufacturer's instructions prior
to implementing this procedure.
Floor
Mats with Odors
To remove
odors from your floor mats as well as the entire interior of your car
is to use distilled white vinegar.
- Remove
the original source of the odor.
- Fold a medium size dish towel to fit into a
plastic container that is smaller than the size of your floor mats.
- Soak the
folded dish towel in distilled white vinegar.
- Place
the vinegar soaked towels in a container.
- Use as
many towels and container as you think you need for your size vehicle.
- Place
the containers in your car on top of each floor mat.
- One on
the passenger and one on the driver's side or;
- One in
the front passenger compartment and one in the rear passenger
compartment
- Place
the containers as near to the odor as possible
- Leave in
your closed car overnight or longer if needed
- When you
remove the vinegar towels the order should be gone or at least severely
diminished.
- DO NOT
PLACE VINEGAR OR THE VINEGAR SOAKED TOWELS DIRECTLY ON THE FLOOR MATS
OR ON ANY PART OF YOUR CAR OR TRUCK. This procedure is to ABSORB the
odor not dilute or cover it up.
